In the mid-fifties, a captured German fighter plane was discovered in a warehouse in Long Beach, California. It was sold at an auction to a clever and talented hot rod builder from Pasadena who set to work building a simple drag racer taking advantage of the airplane's lightweight construction and high powered Daimler-Benz V-12 motor. An industrial surplus transfer case was needed to route the power to the dual rear wheels. The car managed 187 miles per hour at Muroc before front end lift made it undrivable. The car was last seen in 1960 when it was bought by a collector in New Mexico. To see the process of creating this piece, click here.
